Our vision flows down to us from Aikido’s founder, Morihei Ueshiba, who said that Aikido is “a way to reconcile the world.” He nicknamed Aikido “the Art of Peace,” and described its energy as “the spirit of loving protection for all beings.”
“Conflict, threat, challenge, or pain evokes in us physiological fight-flight-freeze-collapse patterns, which constrain us to think and behave in narrow, oppositional, antagonistic ways. Learning to replace the narrow way of reacting with the state of aiki allows more effective and life-affirming actions. (Paul Linden, 6th Dan, Ph.D.)
Our vision is of a world in which humanity has learned to transcend aggressive conflict.
Both the physical practice of Aikido, and the application of its principles to life outside the dojo help manifest that vision. To that end the Board of Directors have dedicated themselves to offering Aiki Extensions as a communication hub where Aikidoists engaged this important work can come together to join forces.
